Our Aims

We try to adapt our tenants’ homes in order for them to stay there for as long as they wish to do so.

We will do this by considering a range of options based on individual need and in consultation with you and Walsall Occupational Therapy Services as appropriate.

Aids and Adaptations

Most aids and adaptations in our homes have previously provided by Walsall Occupational Therapy Services.

However we are now providing you this service for minor aids and adaptations expected to cost less than £1500.00.

We have worked with our tenants to develop a new policy on how we will deliver this service and the types of works we will carry out. We are working closely with Walsall Occupational Therapy Services to ensure a smooth referral system between us. We have also agreed some joint funding for some works costing more than £1500.00 where possible, and in line our budgetary constraints.

In accordance with our new policy and subject to our budgetary constraints, examples of the types of works we will carry out, are the provision of:

  • Lever taps
  • Spatula flush handles to toilets
  • Grab/hand rails
  • Key safes
  • Additional sockets

If you feel you would benefit from adaptations in your home please contact us and a tenancy officer will carry out a home visit within 5 working days of your request to discuss the available options.

In some circumstances where complicated or structural works are required an additional visit by a member of our Property Asset Team will be required dependent upon the request, this will normally be done within 20 working days of request.

There may be occasions where a move to an alternative property would be more appropriate than a major adaptation and in these circumstances we will discuss this option with you.

Where necessary, requests for Major Adaptations will be referred to Walsall Occupational Therapy Service, who will carry out an assessment based on your needs, and advise us of their recommendations

Where minor adaptations have been requested, we will carry out the works subject to our budgetary constraints.

Where major works have been requested, for example a walk in shower; where necessary we will help you apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant. Where you meet the criteria for a formal Occupational Therapy referral we will also look to incorporate these works into our current programmes.

Other Needs

If you need special equipment to make life easier for you, such as a bathing chair, or a stairlift, Occupational Therapy Services may be able to help you.

If you have mobility problems and need things like a walking stick or frame then you will need to speak to your Doctor who can refer you to Community Physio.
