If you are a BCHA tenant you can apply for another BCHA home, as long as your home is in a good, lettable standard with no rechargeable repairs or unauthorised alterations. You should also not owe us any rent arrears or breached your tenancy conditions.
Can I Mutually Exchange?
BCHA tenants can mutually exchange. You will be expected to clear any outstanding debts that you may owe to BCHA and your property must be clear of any rechargeable repairs or unauthorised alterations before you move.
How do I apply for a BCHA home?
We will register your application and send you a letter, confirming the date that you application is effective from and the housing band that you are registered in. If you do not agree with the information contained in this letter please contact us - we are sure we will be able to resolve the matter. Or you can appeal using our complaints procedure.
What type of BCHA Home am I eligible for?
Depending on your circumstances will depend on which housing band you qualify for. The higher your housing need, the higher priority band you will be in. We have four housing bands:
Priority Band - You will be placed into this band if you have an emergency housing need, for example you are statutorily homeless.
Gold Band - You will be placed into this band if you have an urgent housing need, for example, you need two or more bedrooms than you have now.
Silver Band - You will be placed into this band if, for example, you have difficulty climbing the stairs in your home or you need one more bedroom than you have now.
Bronze Band - You will be placed in this band if your current accommodation is suitable but you want to move. This includes current or former owner occupiers where your financial circumstances prevent you from purchasing in the private sector.
